Upon us already: Mayweather vs McGregor

The MMA landscape is being given a facelift for tha foreseeable future. I could be wrong. But I don’t remember hearing many say ” Let the money fights era begin! “back when The UFC sold for four billion in the summer of 2016. Here we are almost through 2017 & The WME-IMG, led UFC isn’t slowing down.

With the official announcement of GSP V Bisping, the picture is all but painted for us fans. This version of The UFC is extremely serious about getting our money. It’s actually dope for someone like me. It proves what I been telling people all along. These fights have to be more exciting in order to rake in huge PPV buys consistently. That’s a topic for another day though.

True fight fans don’t have to be hardcore fans. These are the people most alienated by the current climate of the premiere MMA organization. I’ve heard many of fan say things like ” I don’t give a shit about GSP! I want Bisping to fight Whittaker/Romero “. This has become a classic, ” How Connor McGregor just gonna tie up the whole lightweight division like this?!? “. It remains to be seen at least in the terms of fans gained, and fans lost, what damage has been done, if any at all. I think what Connor McGregor has done for himself with both his mouth, and his fists, is unprecedented. No man in history has accomplished more in such a short amount of time by just talking and fighting as he has. I’m happy for him as a true fan of fighters.

Would McGregor really be about to make history if the ” real ” MMA fans had it their way? I don’t know for sure but I know some very good things have come about because of it all. I’m sure many of you will disagree but it’s the truth. Michael Bisping deserves this fight under this version of the UFC. The man has been an exemplary employee for this company. The man never ducked anybody. He had his quality of life altered by a fighter who was cheating. Now that he has the strap he won by accepting another late replacement fight against a legitimate champion, he’s a coward for wanting to cash in? If you feel that Michael Bisping or GSP or Connor McGregor or Jon Jones or anybody else is wrong for trying to get in on the ” Money Fights “, I doubt your legitimacy as a ” real ” fan.

I want to wish McGregor luck against Mayweather as well. I got a bad feeling Mayweather is going to try and hurt McGregor and this could get ugly. I hope McGregor pulls it off though, I truly do.

UFC 214: The Reason Why

UFC 214: The Reason Why

Daniel Cormier is an American athletic hero, hes always been an honorable competitor & carried himself with dignity. Why is he being viewed as the villain in his upcoming title defense against arguably the best fighter to ever compete in MMA is what I want to examine here. I’ve heard a great many times as I’m sure you all have “ everybody loves a winner “. It can easily explain why this dynamic exists in this long awaited rematch but there are so many more layers to this cake. Daniel Cormier is a man who has faced some very tough personal adversity yet he for the most as has always been someone who handles himself publicly with grace.

Enter Jon Jones, a man who jus might come from the most dominant athletic family ever. He has 2 brothers who play pro football ( Arthur & Chandler ) & he himself is still the record holder for being the youngest ever UFC champion. The are a great many differences between these 2 men but when you take their public personas outside of the sport into consideration this is where things get weird. Jones has been responsible for not only having multiple main event fights canceled but he & his camp declined a last second replacement opponent that caused a whole card to be canceled in UFC 151. Jones threatened to kill a man while being recorded by a major sports network in what he believed to be a private moment between him & his opponent. Many men who have been vanquished by Jones gave him his due credit after losing.

A alarming number of these same men when asked how they feel about Jones as a person used the same word, “ fake “. I don’t need to elaborate on Jones’s arrest, probation violation, failed USADA test or the subsequent suspension that followed. I’m only curious how a man who didn’t grow up in the ghetto, had a father who was a pastor, a mother who was a nurse & is visually a devout Christian get into so much shit. I’m also curious how a man who lost a child & had his father murdered has never allowed himself to get sidetracked in his pursuit of accomplishment in all areas of his life. Id be lying if I told you I wasn’t cheering for Daniel Cormier come this weekend but that has nothing to do with me being his fan. Im cheering for DC because hes an Oklahoma State University Cowboy & we all stick together.

Even if Cormier had graduated from Oregon or LSU he would still be my pick this weekend simply because I like to cheer for the guy who seems the most genuine. Jon Jones has shown us all that his words never seem to match his actions outside of the cage when it counts the most. I have a very hard time believing that if this story had been written up for the big screen, that by time the big fight sequence happened at the end that hardly anybody in the theatre would be cheering for Jones’s chracter. Jones is loved by fans because he is an awesome fighter but for what reason come Saturday will we be hearing people boo Cormier more than Jones is the real question here. If you can tell me of any reason that actually makes sense, ill personally change my twitter icon to Jon Jones’s face. Do me a favor as well, don’t bring up the Anderson Silva fight, at least Cormier took the last second replacement opponent.

What’s up… My name is LeRoiStephon and I’ll be giving you all the top plays in each price range for the DraftKings fantasy contests this weekend. Check out the video version of this article down below in the links section and check out my other podcasts too.. I’m @LeRoiStephonDFS on twitter….

Top Tier (9.6k-8.7k)

  1. Jon Jones($8,900)- Jon Jones’ massive reach advantage is more pronounced and significant than I originally believed before rewatching the fight! Jones uses his length much better than Gustaffsson did against Cormier and really was able to stifle any offense from Cormier and should be able to make even more improvements this time and possibly find the submission with his improved BJJ.. Jones is like my surest pick on the card
  2. Tyron Woodley($8,700)- Woodley should win in this one with ease. Maia is no pushover in any area, but Woodley’s power is absolutely massive and if Maia can’t get this to the ground, which he shouldn’t be able to, he’s going to be KO’ed… I’m just not sure on Woodley’s ceiling.. His floor is at last 30 points though..
  3. Jimi Manuwa($8,800)- Manuwa is a killer and he’s going up against a guy in Oezdemir who’s landed two massive upsets, but in questionable fashion. Manuwa has been knocking heads off and I don’t think Oezdemir is going to be able to survive in there against him!!

Mid Tier(8.6k-7.9k)

  1. Robbie Lawler($8,500)- Donald Cerrone is extremely hurtable and Lawler has the more pronounced power and better boxing by a good stretch… This is a Key matchup on the night and I really like Lawler in this spot
  2. Jason Knight($8,100)- Knight is an absolute beast and he’s got a game that’s hard to deal with unless you’re supremely well rounded and have elite striking and defensive capabilities to compliment it. Lamas is good, but I think Knight is going to be too much for him in this spot
  3. Jarred Brooks($8,6000-Brooks is a wrestling heavy fighter and if he wins, he’s going to score a massive amount of points. Make sure you have some Brooks this weekend..

Bottom Tier(7.8k-6.6k)

  1. Renan Barao($7,800)- Sterling needs his takedowns to be successful and Barao has NEVER been taken down in his UFC career and he’s faced the likes of Urijah Faber and T.J. Dillashaw in the past. Barao is the superior technical striker in this one by a good margin and although Aljo is the better athlete and will keep it close, don’t forget that Barao was at one time arguably the MOST dominant fighter on the planet and he hasn’t dropped off much
  2. Eric Shelton($7,600)- If Brooks can’t take Shelton down, I really don’t see how he’s going to win.. Shelton has faced waybetter grapplers in the past and done just fine if not won and I really am having a hard time deciding between Shelton and Barao as my bottom dollar guys
  3. Josh Burkman(7,200)- Dober should never be priced over $8,300.. He is, and his opponent is way too cheap in a fight he should be super motivated to win because it’s probably his last!!
